Summer Spending Challenge

May 26th, 2010 § 19 Comments

Welcome back! Thanks for returning after my hiatus. I am kicking things off in a new light – - -> ch-ch-check it out!

There’s a lot going into this decision for me and it’s a big one! I’ll be going into more detail as to what helps me and possibly sharing my favorite summer pieces?? Let me know what you’d like to see! Are you in???!! And if you are, what should we call this?? I think it could really take off into something HUGE!!!

PS props to Gracie at Girl Meets Health for the inspiration!

Definitely want to participate! Fabulous idea my dear. ;)

I’m not a big shopper (shocking, I know right!) but I think this is an awesome challenge and I know that I spend on frivolous stuff more than I should!

LOVE this idea! I also would like to include items such as dining out, lattes, and cocktails. Okay, maybe not erase them completely, but there could definitely be some cutting back.

Also, and I’ve heard of groups of girlfriends doing this…we could plan some kind of clothing swap. Girls bring clothes/shoes/jewelry (gently used and relatively trendy) that they no longer wear/want/like to a “Swap Party” and everyone’s trash becomes someone else’s treasure. Everyone leaves with new items and gets rid of the old!

LOVE THIS GIRL!! i for real need to do better with spending money UGH!!
i am so glad you are doing so well! YOU ARE SO ADORABLE and your faith SHINES through you for real!

Good for you lady! Love this idea – I’m going to do my best to participate! I feel like my credit card spending has been a bit higher than I’d like. You’ve got this! :)

  • Lindsay says:

Sounds like a great idea! I know I’ve been spending more than I should lately, just because I keep seeing sales. Need to reign it in! :)

  • Melissa says:

I NEED to do this challenge. Exactly like you: I have a baggie in the freezer with frozen credit cards. BUT I have another credit card or I get sneaky and ask stores like J. Crew to look up my card. Ahh, it needs to stop!

I’m definitely living beyond my means, increasing my debt, and not saving for important life events. I’m a shopaholic. Big time. It’s BAD! I don’t know how well I’ll do with this challenge…but I want to give it my best effort.

Like you said, I can shop in my closet. I have clothes w/ tags on them. I don’t need to be buying something new! I can get rid of stuff I don’t use. Donate it. Stop thinking about material things. Enjoy the summer months.

Great video blog, by the way! I really enjoyed listening to your chitchat :)

  • I completely applaud you for doing this! We just recently paid off our credit cards which were pretty hefty since our wedding pretty much ran us over! I sleep better! I get less anxiety. We just feel freer! We don’t shop that much, and we don’t go out to eat that often. We are just trying to live within our means right now, and it is definitely paying off. Our next goal is to pay off our school debt!

  • Soooo happy to see you are back! Lovely vlog! I think your challenge is a great idea. I’ve been surprised at myself and what I can come up with just by digging through what I already have.

  • a) i love this video.
    b) i love you coming clean via video.
    c) i guess i will join you for this. (begrudgingly)
    d) no- actually. this is a great idea… i doint usually spend much money on material things, anyway….im kind of..umm…cheap…. every shirt i wore this week had a tiny hole in it or a seam that had come out. but thats a whole nother issue, eh?
    e) hi, chase.
    f) you are cute.
    g) umm…thats all.

  • This is a great idea! I think I will join the summer spending challenge. I need to save all the money I can, so this is a good start.

Have you ever heard of a clothing swap party? I know us girls have tons and tons of clothes, accessories and random things laying around being untouched. I’ve heard of a group of girls getting together and bringing all of their unwanted, forgotten items to someones house and just exchanging for other items. Anyone else think this would be a good idea?

Great challenge. I stopped using the CC’s as a crutch when I was in college. I will say, once you pay off the CC’s, the money you put in a slush fund makes you feel all warm and cozy! I rarely use my credit card!

  • I obviously need to participate. I don’t know what a budget it (and don’t care to learn) so the freezer is the only reasonable option for me.

  • Great idea! My situation means that I don´t really have normal spending constraints to worry about (the whole african village thing…) but I am already trying to organize budgets and stuff for when I get back to the states because I know I am going to have SUCH a hard time with it! Money management, so important and yet so frustrating… why doesnt it just grow on trees? :)
