Day Eighty-Five
You know those days where you’re scrambling to get something done and you realize it’s 10:24 and you have to leave for your second 12-hour day in a row in six minutes?
That’s me right now. So enjoy the photo and get outside and have a wonderful Saturday. And as I always say, if you go shopping, to a restaurant or anywhere that someone is working or helping you, try to remember it’s their weekend, too, and give them an extra smile.
Have you checked out my studio’s Facebook page? Head on over and give it a like for more photography goodness!

Day Sixty-Five
It was a pedicure kind of weekend. One of those rare times when I had a day off that I didn’t ask for. And although my first waking thoughts were the recognition of the ping ping of hail outside, the weather soon turned and the sun again greeted us. In the late afternoon, I found myself in one of the dozen chairs at the nail salon, fiddling with the settings of the massage controller. I brought my copy of The Digital Photography Book and began thumbing through it in hopes to get inspired. Fifteen minutes later, I was explaining ISO and lighting to the woman who was painting my toes with two coats of Cha-Ching Cherry. Despite the language barrier, I think I might have actually known what I was talking about enough to make some sense. I lingered for an extra long time after she finished to “let my toes dry” and catch up on fashion news and Drew Barrymore in an issue of Elle. I meandered through Target. I spent 20 minutes in the paper aisle at Office Max. I had nowhere to be and nothing to do. It was a feeling I’d all but forgotten. It was lovely.
In an effort to draw out my relaxation as long as possible before I kick off a 50-hour work week tonight, I’m unplugging for the rest of the afternoon with big plans to get lost in a book.
I wish every weekend could be like this.

Day Fifty-Nine
It’s time for a few weekend confessions. Ready?
I wore flip flops and shorts this weekend. I pulled my hair back in a ponytail and could just feel spring. Considering my dislike for sweating just thinking about going outside in the summer months in Texas, I’d like temperatures to stay right where they are, thank you very much.
Every morning when I go to post, I have to pull up my blog to know what day I’m on for Project FOR Life. I have absolutely no concept of order. Or a memory apparently.
I spent my Saturday night baking three dozen yellow cupcakes. Half were from scratch using Jenna’s recipe, half came from a box. I ran out of frosting with a dozen to go. They were made per request for a coworker on her last day. Turns out she didn’t show up. I’m sure you understand everyone’s disappointment as they stuffed their faces with chocolate frosting and sugary sweet sprinkles.
After a 12-hour day, the only thing that sounded appealing to me last night was pizza and some quality alone time. After a quick stop for a $5 pie, I threw on an oversized t-shirt that used to belong to my Dad, some flowery shorts and caught up on 10 days of DVR. And although I was stuffing my face like a grown man in an eating contest, you know homegirl was tuned into the Oprah Winfrey Network. Juxtaposition, people.
Oh yeah, I also spent a small fortune booking my next trip to New York. I really enjoyed that pit in my stomach feeling when I realized making travel accommodations two weeks out was not the brightest idea I’ve ever had. Then I realized it will be less than 14 days before I’m packing my bags and heading to the most amazing place on earth. It was all warm and fuzzy from there.
I’ve got a lot of really big photography developments coming down the pipe in the next few weeks. This is wonderful because I spent several days last week without so much as a glace at my Canon. Also, did I just use the phrase “coming down the pipe”? I am so my high school science teacher.
Oh, and one more thing about the pizza. It was fabulous for breakfast.
Today’s lovely photo was made possible in part by our sponsor Cailyn and Brian.
Concerts and Shamrocks

Happy Friday y’all!! Today is the first of two glorious days off for myself and I have lots of fun things planned. Tonight I am traveling a few hours west to see John Mayer in concert. As I have said before, I don’t particularly care for him as a person but I have been a big fan of his music since before the days of “Your Body is a Wonderland.” Which, by the way was an entirely different Mr. Mayer if you ask me. All sweet and lovely, then last month we have him talking about masturbation? Please, John, hold it together tonight. While I’m no concert junkie, I have been to quite a few in my day:
- 98 Degrees (Jessica Simpson opened and got booed!)
- Backstreet Boys
- LFO (I wish I was kidding)
- Rascal Flatts
- Gary Allan
- Justin Timberlake/Christina Aguilera/Black Eyed Peas
- P!nk/Justin Timberlake with special appearance by Timbaland
- Kenny Chesney/Sugarland/Lady Antebellum
- Lil Wayne/Young Money
- Girltalk
- The Ting Tings/P!nk
They have all been really great concerts, each in their own way (I mean, can’t you tell from my expression in the pictures?!) However, they have all been really crazy-get-up-out-your-seat concerts too, and we all know homeboy tonight won’t be getting too nuts. Still, I look forward to adding another one to the list. Concerts are such a great time, what ones have you been to? Asking that question is a great way to get to know someone. Although, I don’t know what my list says about me??
Tomorrow is the annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Pittsburgh. Ours is the second biggest in the country! Seeing that I am 1/4 Irish and I have permanently inked myself to tell the world so, I am hype for tomorrow. We start the festivities early, including a parade and maybe a green beer or eight two. This calls for me breaking out my fancy glass.
PS It says “Irish I had more green beer” at the bottom. Told ya I’m hard. Happy weekend!!
Another one down

Hello friends!
Sorry you haven’t heard from me in a few – I have been exceptionally busy with a little thing we call work! Basically, I am getting in all my time before I head down south on holiday!
Another weekend has come and gone – care to recap what a 25-year-old’s looks like?
As I said in my last post, Christmas season officially began Friday! I attended my first Light Up Night. Boy was it ever an event!
That entire bridge was packed! And if you turned around, the opposite side of the street was just as crowded. It was nuts. (I loved it!)
We took a walk across the bridge to scout our food vendors. All I wanted was a gyro, but the tent was hidden with tiny signs we didn’t see at first, so I settled for a cheese steak.
Having spent a considerable amount of time in Philly, I now consider myself spoiled. No cheese steak even comes close to the original(s). When I asked the guy at the tent for cheese whiz, he looked at me like I just asked for tofu. I had to settle for provolone.
We walked around a bit then headed into Olive or Twist for a few beverages.
And, of course, proceeded to be silly fools
Then it was off to watch some sparkles in the sky!
We went out for a bit afterwards to a sports bar in the middle of the Stadium Loop. I would be lying if I said there was no dancing. Those who have never had the pleasure of going out with me surely would be in for a treat – I will dance anywhere, with anyone – no alcohol necessary! No, I am not one of those, “I don’t dance” people. I definitely get as much out of it as a workout. Apparently, this time around I even had a little audience watching me – I was too busy having fun making my friends laugh! I have a dance for every song
Saturday brought a full day of work followed by an evening spent catching up on Grey’s Anatomy and watching a Behind the Music documentary on Pink. I went to her concert last month and I think she is an amazing performer and a gifted musician. She sure has been through a lot and I admire her umm, general “I don’t give a f*&# attitude.” She says what’s on her mind!
Saturday I also made an investment piece purchase by buying a very nice carry-on bag for my future flights to Texas. More of that later this week!
Today, I once again – everybody! – “worked!” Tonight, we made family dinner, which is a slowly building tradition in our house where we cook dinner and invite over friends to share a meal and just connect. It’s a good way to start the week. Tonight we had delicious salad with tomatoes, avacado and my roommates specialty dressing followed by mashed taters and steak glazed with brown sugar – oh man was it good – and I am not a big meat eater!
We talked about our Christmas decorating ideas over dinner. We are going to go cut down our own tree when I get back – I cannot wait! We always had fake ones growing up so this should be an adventure!
Off to finish prepping to “start” my week even though I’ve worked five straight days.
How was your weekend? Do you mix up fun and relaxation too?
